Suzanne Thomas
Bio

Believing that self-expression is vital to us all, Suzanne Galant Thomas feels blessed to be an artist. "This vocation provides me with continuous opportunities to creatively express myself in a satisfying yet challenging way," says the lifelong artist. Having used art as a form of self-expression since childhood, Suzanne feels that being an artist is a marvelous means to explore and develop her thoughts, philosophies and beliefs about herself and the world around her.

Suzanne works mainly with pastels, enjoying the spontaneity and immediacy this medium provides. She delights in the variety of bold, vibrant colors and the hands-on feel of the pastel stick against the surface of the paper. She also appreciates that pastels are very forgiving, and they can be applied with a variety of techniques allowing for a lot of experimentation and play.

A native of Michigan where she received her BFA degree from Michigan State University, Suzanne lived in Pennsylvania and Austin, Texas before moving in 1996 to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she resides with her husband, Rick. Suzanne has been actively involved in the Raleigh art community. A member of the Visual Art Exchange since January 1996, she was elected to its board in September 1996, going on to serve as president in 1997 and '98. She continues to volunteer with this organization through its annual fundraising Ball and Street Painting Festival. Suzanne is also a member of The Art Alliance of Raleigh, a group of women artists dedicated to supporting each member's growth as a professional artist. Additionally, she is a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Southeastern Pastel Society. Her art is represented in numerous personal and corporate collections.
