Wendy Morrison Painter
Bio
A Durham native, Wendy Morrison Painter began her creative endeavors as a child, which led her to pursue an education in design. A graduate of the NCSU School of Design, Wendy went on to have a 20-year career in housing and community development. The start of a home-based consulting business in 1992 provided the opportunity to pursue her true vocation - that of an artist.

An accomplished artist, Wendy has exhibited in more than 30 juried shows, 12 group shows, and solo shows at the Rocky Mount Art Center and the Durham Arts Council. Her awards include firsts at the NC State Fair and the LaGrange Biennial Art Exhibition and Sale, as well as various awards at the Rocky Mount Arts Center Annual Art Show, Beaufort County Arts Council Annual Juried Fine Arts Show, Kerr Lake Spring Art Show, Cary CAA Annual Fine Art Show, and Visual Art Exchange Shows. Wendy also received a United Arts Grant in 1998 and was included in The Spectator Magazine's The Best of Gallery 2001.
Her work hangs in the collections of SAS Institute, CAHEC, Central Carolina Bank, City of Rocky Mount, PSP Marketing in Charlotte, and First South Bank in Rocky Mount.

Wendy's abstract paintings exhibit vibrant colors and textured layers created by various techniques. Each layer of paint is applied with purpose, building upon soft washes and energetic brush strokes, alternating with swipes of a palette knife's flat edge. Heavy watercolor paper is Wendy's favorite painting surface; she uses large square canvases and dramatically narrow, horizontal surfaces as well.

Each layer, each texture, is a reflection of a point in consciousness, many not known to us until we are made aware of them. They hold information and energy that is very useful. Energy and information that is a part of us, maybe forgotten, possibly never known. Each work has a point of entry specifically created to open this window of opportunity.

Wendy's desire is not only for her paintings to be appreciated for their vibrant colors and unique textures, but perhaps most of all, that they find their way to individuals who covet them for their beneficial self-awareness powers.
