Laurie GengoLaurie B. Gengo is a native of Jamestown, New York. She received herundergraduatedegree from the State University of New York at Geneseo,where she majored in political science and criminal justice. She went onto study political science at the graduate level at the State Universityof New York at Buffalo, where she also attended law school, receivingher Juris Doctor degree in 1985. Thereafter, she began practicingenvironmental law with several large law firms. She currently serves asOf Counsel with The Sanford HolshouserLaw Firm in Raleigh, North Carolina.At Sanford Holshouser, Ms. Gengo continues to practice environmentallaw, along with corporate law and litigation.Ms. Gengo has always been interested in art, and began drawing andpainting in her elementary days. She began taking herinterest in art moreseriously in 1994, when she began learning to paint inpastel, acrylic and oil.The subject matter of her art has included primarily environmental subjects suchas landscapes, gardens, sunrises and sunsets, a logical extension of her legal practiceand interest in the environment. Ms. Gengo has recently begunpainting boldsubjects on Chinese silk.Although Gengo enjoys painting, her real passion is mosaics. She recentlyformed a business called Creative Artistry, which focuses on creatingready made and custom mosaic accessories, furniture and artwork. Hercreations include, among other things, mirrors, occasional tables, console tables,outdoor garden items and glassware. Ms. Gengo utilizes avariety of productsin her mosaics such as tile, china and stained glass. She has traveled abroadto learn more about the mosaic craft and to photograph mosaics in TunisiaTurkey, and Italy to provide inspiration for her work. She has alsoimported special tiles from Tunisia and Turkey specifically for use in hermosaic projects. Additionally, as an expression of her interest in theenvironment, she uses recycled glass and discarded tiles andceramics when available.Ms. Gengo's mosaics and artwork are sold through Magnolia Marketplacein Raleighand Cary, North Carolina. Later this year, they will be availableat the second floor art gallery at The Cotton Company in WakeForestNorth Carolina, where Ms. Gengo will have an art studio. AdditionallyMs. Gengo sells her mosaics and artwork directly to wholesale and retailcustomers, and is happy to design a mosaic item to suit a customer's particularcolor scheme.
