Lloyd Skidmore of Friendship, NC, has
come full circle artistically, having returned to painting full-time
after many career accomplishments as a music impressario, special events
producer, artisan builder, and restaurant designer. His acrylic works
are characterized by bold, flickering colors and brush strokes that
are highly impressionistic, yet assertive. These qualities are ever-present
in Skidmore's painting across the gamut of subject matter: figural,
landscape, cityscape, or, more recently, what he describes as "phone
art." Recalling somewhat the psychological bent of the Surrealists and
Fauves, phone art invokes the process of auto-suggestion. Fundamentally,
he paints a portrait of someone who is being described over the telephone,
optimizing his vivid imagination with more than the usual degree of
free rein.
